The Loess Hills Visitors Center and Gift ShopLocated in the historic Cover Country School House in downtown Moorhead in Monona County, this restored building has the hip and ridge roof, a style unique for country schoolhouses. Shop in the ambience of a country school for souvenirs, maps and information about Western Iowa's Monona, Harrison and Crawford County attractions, as well as general information about the entire Loess Hills Corridor. When you visit the Loess Hills, one of the first stops should be at the Loess Hills Visitors Center and Gift Shop in Moorhead. There you will find maps and brochures that tell about the many places of interest, such as the new Loess Hills Scenic Overlook and country churches. The visitor center is also full of information on places to eat and overnight accommodations if you want to spend a night or two in the hills. |

The shop is filled with a variety of crafts and gift items, many which are made in the Loess Hills by area artisans. The Loess Hills Gift shop features arts and crafts from area artisans, including Kessler pottery, fired with bits of loess soil in its creation. |

Wooden hand-carved items, candles, T-shirts and sweat-shirts are just a few of the things for sale by area consignors. Loess Hills Afghans, calendars with Loess Hills photographs, ceramic tiles with images of the hills, and other souvenirs of the Loess Hills Scenic Byways abound in the little restored schoolhouse. Paintings, photographs and note cards done by local artists feature the hills in a unique way. |
The inventory changes with the seasons so it is always fun to stop in and see what's new and interesting.
The shop is open weekdays from 9:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. until 4:30 on Saturdays and Sundays, except for the week after Christmas, when it is closed for inventory. Winter hours for weekdays and Saturday afternoons are 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. until March 1st. For more information, call 712 886-5441.
