Loess Hills Prairie Seminar
is held the 1st weekend after Memorial Day in the Loess Hills. This back to nature weekend of hiking and nature studies is held annually and is open to all ages. Contact the Monona County Conservation office 712) 423-2400

Lewis & Clark Festival
is held the 2nd weekend in June at the Lewis and Clark State Park near Onawa. See the full-size Keelboat built to the exact specifications Lewis & Clark and their crew traveled in. Plans are currently underway for an interpretive visitor center with indoor displays and space to house and view the keelboats during the winter months. 712) 423-1801

Bobcat 'Go-Kart' Speedway Racing is held May through mid-September at Blencoe City Park. Monona Kart Association sponsors this nationally sanctioned and family oriented summer event. Refreshments are available at park. No charge for spectator stand. 402) 658-8473 or 712) 452-2081

Flag Day
is held the third Sunday in June at Blencoe City Park. 712) 452-2613

Donna Reed Festival
is held the third week in June at Denison with dozens of workshops led by entertainment industry talents as part of the annual Donna Reed Festival. 712) 263-5621

Mid States Summer Run
is held the 3rd Saturday in June in Onawa and attracts over 300 vintage cars for a "show 'n shine" car show on the "Widest Main Street USA". The "Blast from the Past" perennial favorite attracts visitors from all directions. Mid States Summer Run has something for every one of all ages including food, entertainment, music, an evening cruise, vendors, contests, prizes, and more. 712) 423-2411

July 4th Celebrations in Monona County:

Whiting Rodeo is part of an annual July 3rd and 4th Celebration each year at Whiting, which includes calf roping, saddle bronc riding, barrel racing and more 712) 458-2853.
Whiting, Mapleton, and Onawa hold annual July 4th celebrations with parades, entertainment, and fireworks.

Monona County Fair
is held the 2nd week in July in Onawa and is one of the last free county fairs around. The fairs hosts assorted entertainment, 4-H judging, exhibits, and food booths and on Sunday, the annual parade signals the end of another successful fair week. 712) 423-2175

Flight Breakfast
is held annually in Mapleton at the airport on the 3rd Sunday of August. 712) 882-2764

Onabike
is held the last Saturday in August and begins in Onawa. Onabike is Onawa's version of that other famous bike ride but in a more manageable form and in some of Iowa's most beautiful countryside, the Loess Hills. Choose between the long or short route. The long route includes a ride down Murray Hill, the highest elevation in Harrison County. 712) 423-1801

Classic Car Club Swap Meet
is held the 3rd weekend in August in Onawa. Buy, sell, or trade "classic" cars, parts, and memorabilia. Concessions, exhibits, displays, car corral, and free overnight parking are all part of the yearly swap meet. 712) 423-2411

Ventures Craft Fair
is held the 2nd Sunday in September in Onawa. Ventures is one of the area's largest (over 100 vendors) and very well attended craft shows. Vendors and buyers return year after year for some of the nicest craft booths around. 712-423-1281.

Crabgrass Days
are held the 3rd weekend in September in the little town of Moorhead and feature a parade, community church services, pancake breakfast, children's games and activities, and more. For information contact 712) 886-5441

Loess Hills Poker Run Trail Ride
is held the 3rd Saturday in August. A 4-hour trail ride in the Loess Hills scenery with prizes and awards for riders. Evening ends with a country-dance that is sponsored by the Loess Hills Saddle Club. 712) 886-5502

Celebrate The Hills Art Show
is an annual month-long juried show in October at the Moorhead Cultural Center and features art for sale by Loess Hills artists. 712) 886-5017

Christmas in November
is held the 2nd and 3rd weekends in November at the Monona County Historical Museum. Christmas Trees decorated by groups from throughout the county are on display and volunteers from the Loess Hills Historical Society serve refreshments. 712) 423-2776
